AIR NEW ZEALAND BLOG AWARDS – Ozy Astounds
June 12, 2010 in Uncategorized
The Ozy Mandias Warning Blog has astounded fellow bloggers and the judges at the recent Air New Zealand Blogging Awards.
The awards, held for the first time this year, were won by Catus Kate and represented the very best from the New Zealand blogging community.
Without being disresptful to Catus Kate I think the judges were biased as a simple image search in goggle for Catus Kate gets you the image below.

Compare that to an image search for Ozy Mandias Warning and you get . ……

Little wonder that I lost and she won.
But enough about them lets get back too me.
The judges were spellbound by the wit, humour and depth of the writing on this blog. Some of the comments are below.
BRADBURY – The Mills and boon romance novel is pure brilliance, best line “his chest rising and falling with the regularity of an Aussie scrum. The bed sheets loosely hung around his waist, exposing both his rock hard abs and his Webb Ellis Trophy, as Stacy affectionately called it.”. The obesity epidemic “Currently we rank behind Mexico and the United States. I believe with a concerted effort and more swine flu cases Mexico is definitely within our sights.” His desire to catch swine flu is admirable and his application to NZ cricket for the coaching job sounded reasonable. Impressive blog.
SELWYN - Occasional flare mired by wordiness and sports fixation.
I felt Selwyn’s comment was a little brief, however, a quick look at the online dictionary shows a different story. I actually looked up the word ‘mired’ and it apparently means entangled or hindered, which for some reason I think is a bad thing. On the other hand ‘flare’ means the following….
-To burst into intense, sudden flame.
-To become suddenly angry.
-An outbreak, as of emotion or activity.
-An unwanted reflection within an optical system or the resultant fogging of the image.
Makes my blog sound more like Luke Skywalkers lightsaber than a blog but good comments nonetheless.
To enter the competition I had to enter my best four posts from 2009. This proved to the hardest part of the process. That was like selecting a grain of sand from the beach, I had that many good posts. After much thought I went for a comprehensive approach. First up I showed my writing ability by including the post that made it to the Sunday Star Times in their Romance Writers Competition. Next up I tackled two social issues and showed I have the finger on the pulse of this country. Finally I branched out into the sporting realm and showed them I am no one trick political pony when I applied for the position of NZ Cricket coach.

For many New Zealand bloggers my emergence will be a warning shot across the bow of many of the big guns. Whale oil is already shaking in his boots as is Kiwiblog at the thought of the 2010 competition where I will no longer be a dark horse. Catus Kate is rumoured to be concerned at my content and growing popularity and considering she is the defending champion that says something. All I can do is say look out 2010.

Good on ya for entering. You have some great stuff there.
I never got around to it. Given that Qantas have had them, and now the “Air New Zealand” version, perhaps when Virgin run their version of the blogger awards, it might be worth dusting off the historical data and extract something from the archives.
